Another Visitor

Bonjour my fellow crafters,

Not too much is happening at the moment.  I'm going to be participating in a blog hop from Operation Write Home tomorrow, so I've been making my contribution to that, which you will be able to see tomorrow.

It looks like it's going to be a somewhat large event, at least 100 folks are participating, so be sure and drop by again tomorrow. 

I also wanted to leave you with a look at one of our other fur babies, Tabitha.  She's our eldest, but that doesn't stop her from trying to get a look at what I'm doing.

Finished Watercolor Project

I hope everyone is enjoying their week so far, of course we are only 2 days in so hopefully nothing too catastrophic has occurred yet.  I just wanted to post the final project that I demoed on the video that I posted last week...

I finished coloring in the flowers, then used one of the Spellbinder dies to cut it out.  I put foam tape behind the image to pop it off the card.  The butterfly and gold trim and all embellishments from Paper Artsy and are made of lightweight paper.  I just love them.

Hopefully I have inspired a few of you to give watercolor a try.  See what you have in your stash, any medium that is water soluble will work, and invest in a small amount of watercolor paper.  This will make you a lot happier with your efforts.

Distress Glitter - CCC Challenge #2

Greetings Fellow Crafters,

I hope everyone had a great weekend, they just seem to go by so quickly.  Here is the latest challenge from Tim Holtz's latest book, Studio L3.

Of course, no matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to get Graycie to stop photobombing me lol!  Below I'm gonna give a bit of the "behind the scenes" process.  As always, I'm not gonna give an exact step by step instruction, you should check out Tim's book for that!

First off, I had to get me some of the Distress Glitter.  As some of you may be aware, I love me all things glittery, so I had to decide which colors I wanted to start with.  I chose grunge pieces and glittered them up.

Next I stamped and image using a set by Paper Artsy, then added glitter wings behind her, and used my Wink Of Stella pen to add a bit more pizzazz.  I also colored her skin in with copic markers.  I wasn't too concerned about going outside the lines, because I knew I was going to cut her out.

Next I created the background using Distress Paints, a stencil and the foam from the Ink Blending Tool.  I decided to use the foam because applying the paint directly to the stencil and paper made the paint seem under the stencil hence making the image muddy.

Since I had the stencils out, I made another background just for the heck of it.  With this one I used molding paste and glitter from Art Institute.  I just used a couple of stencils, applied the paste with a palette knife, applied the glitter while the paste was still wet and washed my stencils immediately.

Then I applied the Distress Paint, with water in order for the paints to blend.  I'm quite happy with the results and I'm gonna use this one for some upcoming project...

So here is the final project using the Distress Glitter.  The stamping was done with Archival Ink, since the background now had a coating.  I again used the Wink of Stella glitter pen for a bit of added punch!

Watercolor with Tombows

Happy Hump Day Y'all!!
OK, so a friend of mine kind of gave me a creative kick in the butt and I've started to do instructional videos.

This first one is about watercoloring with Tombow markers. They are a great marker plus are water soluble, so for the novice watercolor artist like myself, these markers lend themselves beautifully to achieving the desired results. Cause let's face it, who wants to invest a ton of cash into a medium that we find we can't work with and don't like!

If you have any other questions, just fire me off an email in cyberspace. Now don't expect Ron Howard quality movies. These videos are me, as I am, teaching as I would teach a live class.

Terrific Tuesday!
Hi everyone, Jodie here hoping you are having a wonderful day.  For those who wanted to watch yesterday's video, sorry about that!  Gotta love all this wonderful technology lol.  Here are some pictures of a few of my latest projects...

 Of course I can't create without this wonderful elixir known as coffee.  This card was made using a watercolor wash over an embossed background.  Below are some closeups, I used Distress Paint on the metal tag, then stamped the saying with one of the same markers I used in the background.

 

This project was created by my friend, Kina. She owns the great online store The Stamproom. We made this piece on canvas, using Distress Paints. The closeup shots show the embellishments, along with the Prima stamps and from their paper as well.

This is a project that I'm working on, a mini chipboard album. Stay tuned for more details.

Just a Few Tips

Happy Monday Y'All!

Yea, since Rob and I live in Florida, I'm becoming a bit more southern, just a bit mind you, we're still Canadian through and through, as our home thermostat will attest too lol!
I just wanted to post this short video, which will give you some tips and tricks about using the watercolor stuff and Tombow markers...enjoy!

Frenzy of Crafting Weekend! (kind of long post!)

Salutations my fellow crafters,
Hard to believe that the weekend is coming to a close.  I was lucky enough to have the weekend off, which as some of you may know, for me it's a rarity.  I have been getting caught up on some of the "homework" for my online watercolor class at http://www.onlinecardclasses.com/ and have been having a blast.  In this post I'm gonna give up the techniques that I've discovered.
First, these are the backgrounds that I made using my Tombow markers.  I didn't have any watercolor mediums, except for pencils and they weren't giving me the desired effects.  I haven't used these markers in a dog's age and had forgotten how truly versatile they can be...

 I started using ordinary watercolor paper that I found in the depths of my stash.  This first one I wet the paper first, applied the markers, then applied more water to blend them a bit.

 This next background was created for the class.  I won't give details on how to do this, if you want to know, sign up for the class.  It's totally worth it!

 With this technique I applied the markers directly to the DRY paper, then added water to blend.  I didn't soak the paper, cause I wanted to keep the vibrancy of the colors.  The next few pics are how I created a card using this background.

First I let the piece dry completely.  Next using Brilliance Moonlight White and white embossing powder, I stamped and embossed the flower onto the background.

Next I stamped the saying using the Tombow marker for the border, "huffed" on it so that the heat from my breath would moisten the ink, then after, stamped the saying using Memento ink on the inside.  Also I didn't have ribbon the right color, so I took the plain stuff, used the Distress Stain and voila! 

 Below is the final product!

Below is another type of watercolor background that was outlined in the class.  Again, out of respect for the teachers, I won't go into too much detail, but I will say a stencil was used!

 

This was all a lot of fun and I got some amazing effects.  The close up shows how the pattern of the stencil really comes through!

 Here is another card I made using another of the class backgrounds!

Finally poor Graycie just couldn't keep her eyes open any longer, we were up way past her bedtime! lol
